North Mariner publishes travel news and practical information about Japan. By reading the site you accept these terms.

Rail pass prices, Shinkansen fares, entry requirements, visa rules and seasonal opening dates all change, sometimes with little notice. We track them weekly and update pages when official sources change, but a page can be out of date the day after we publish it.

Before you book, pay or fly, confirm the details with the official source we link to: the rail operator, the Immigration Services Agency of Japan, your nearest Japanese embassy or consulate, or the venue itself.

Every item on a topic page carries the date it was published, so you can judge how fresh a price or a rule is before you rely on it.

We do not sell tickets, passes, tours or rooms, and we do not process visa applications. Nothing on this site is legal or immigration advice; for your own case the embassy or a qualified adviser has the final word.

Articles, summaries and topic pages are written by our editorial team. Linked reporting and official notices belong to their publishers, and we link to them rather than reproduce them.

You are welcome to share links and quote short passages with credit. Copying whole articles or topic pages elsewhere requires our permission.

We do not accept payment to recommend, rank or suppress anything, and we do not publish sponsored content recommending services we have not used ourselves. If that ever changes, it will be labelled on the page concerned.

Mistakes are corrected publicly, with a note at the top of the article explaining what changed and when. Send corrections or link-removal requests to editorial@north-mariner.com.

Hiking, mountain and seasonal information on this site is general. Check weather and trail conditions locally on the day; closures announced by local authorities always take precedence over anything we have written.

To the extent permitted by Japanese law, North Mariner is not liable for missed connections, refused boarding, extra costs or other losses arising from reliance on information published here, or for the content of external sites. This does not exclude liability that cannot be excluded by law.

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Nagoya District Court at first instance.

Fares and prices are quoted in yen as published by the operator when we wrote the piece. Any conversion into another currency is approximate and for orientation only. Discounts, such as fare offers for younger passengers, often carry conditions that the operator sets and can withdraw.

When we cover travel around events such as the Asian Games 2026, ticketing, accreditation and event-specific visa arrangements are handled by the organisers and the authorities. Treat our coverage as orientation and follow the organisers' official notices.

Please do not scrape the site with aggressive automated requests, attempt to breach its security, or repackage its guides as a paid product. Search engines and feed readers are welcome.

Autumn leaf and cherry blossom forecasts are predictions published by forecasters and tourism bodies, and they shift from week to week. Peak dates on our seasonal pages are a planning guide, not a promise of what you will see on the day.
